Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Xiguan, Pingtang, Shangsi, 25 km south of Dushan County Seat, Guizhou. It was named by Ding Wenjiang in 1931.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Dark-gray and gray-black moderately thick-bedded micritic limestone-micrite and bioclastic limestone, sometimes intercalated with dolomitic limestone. The lower part contains chert nodules with minor shale.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Disconformable contact with the underlying Liuzhai Member of Jiusi Fm

Upper contact

Regional extent

Best developed in the Dushan and Weining areas, thickness ~200 m; tens of meters thick or absent northward to the Guiyang and Liping areas, showing a conformable contact. Its distribution area is smaller than that of Xiangbai and Baizuo formations, but wider than that of Jiusi Fm.

Fossils

Fossils are abundant, mainly including Corals Kueichouphyllum heishihkuanense, K. sinense, Yuanophyllum sp., Aulina carinata, A. rotiformis, Heterocaninia sp., etc.; Brachiopods Gigantoproductus moderatus, Delepinea comoides, D. transversa, Megachonetes sp., etc.; Fusulinid Eostaffella sp.
